Discover the Ardèche
You spend your vacations in Ardèche and are looking for a camping in the gorges of Chassezac ?
The gorges of Ardèche are part of these fabulous natural sites which remind us that the creations of Man will never reach the degree of perfection of nature, and that the latter knows how to arm itself with patience to offer us grandiose landscapes started several millennia ago. From our Camping des gorges du Chassezac, you will be ideally placed to venture into the meanders of the Chassezac river.
Known all over the world, the Chassezac gorges are a canyon about thirty kilometers long dug by the river in a limestone plateau, between the Occitanie and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regions. Over time, erosion has allowed the formation of exceptional geological sites that can be appreciated between the communes of Vallon-Pont-d’Arc and Saint-Martin-d’Ardèche not far from your camping in Ardèche. There are also caves such as the Chauvet cave (closed to the public) and the cave of Saint-Marcel
On the river with its many rapids that winds between the green Ardèche mountains, sportsmen can practice several water sports such as canoeing and kayaking, as well as other sensational activities such as canyoning, climbing, speleology, zip line descents and microlight. The Chassezac gorges are also an exceptional setting for hiking and cycling enthusiasts, with more than 80 km of marked trails to climb the Dent de Rez overlooking the Ardèche valley. You can discover the dolmens and the natural sites they contain.
Discover the Ardèche
The river Chassezac takes its source in Lozere, and continues its way to the Gard. It joins the river Ardèche towards St Alban Auriolles. The site of the Chassezac gorges is a starting point for hikes, especially the one that goes to the Bois de Paiolive where you can make a circuit thanks to its paths (circuit of the Corniche, the Virgin, and St Eugène). On the Way, you will cross rocks with surprising shapes such as the Bear and the Lion. You can enjoy swimming in the river, fishing, but also canoeing or kayaking. The Camping des gorges du Chassezac is the ideal place to recharge your batteries on the riverside, accompanied by the song of cicadas. The Chassezac gorges are very popular with hikers and cyclists and are only about thirty kilometers upstream from the Domaine des Chêne and about sixty kilometers east of the Ardèche gorges. Rafting, canoeing, kayaking, canyoning, climbing and abseiling are also among the main activities. Some sections of the Chassezac River, especially at the old village of Cornilhon, have sandy and pebble beaches suitable for swimming.
From the Camping des gorges du Chassezac, count about 50 minutes to get there by the road D901. You will pass near charming villages such as Malons-et-Elze and Vilefort. After crossing the latter, continue on the D906. You will see the majestic lake of Vilefort on your left, then the town of Morangiés. Access to the gorges is shortly after La Garde Guérin. The Chassezac gorges fascinate by their high carved limestone cliffs that make it a climbing paradise, in the middle of which the river passes. This superb site is at the gateway to two other protected natural areas: the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Nature Park and the Cévennes National Park. For your next vacations in the Ardèche, we are waiting for you and your family to spend a good time in the heart of the Chassezac gorges.
